Here are 3 things you need to know: Matt Cutts, Google Buy Button, AdWords Express Sitelinks

online marketing news

1) Matt Cutts

It's almost become a running joke that Matt Cutts, head of Google's web spam team, keeps extending his leave from work. Initially he left last July and we're coming up on a year of his absence. Recently, Google announced that they have hired a new head of web spam, but were very clear that that person's role would not be to replace Matt Cutts.

2) Google Buy Buttons

You might be seeing a "buy" button coming to Google AdWords search ads in the near future. Omid Kordestani, Google's Chief Business Officer, confirmed that Google is working on rolling out capability to add a "buy" button to select retail ads. The button would then take users to a certain landing page where they can complete the purchase. This announcement came on the heels of a report that mobile searches inlcluding terms like "near me" or "nearby" have more than doubled in the past year. All in all it confirms that Google is bringing about changes to local search and paid search to help the mobile user while on their devices.

3) AdWords Express Sitelinks

AdWords Express has begun building out their ads by adding some extensions that had previously only been available to users of the full AdWords product. Sitelink extensions have begun showing on AdWords express ads, giving ad viewers more options of landing pages to enter the advertiser's site. However, since AdWords Express is built to be a lite version of AdWords, the sitelinks are chosen by Google and only able to be removed by contacting them.
